Ever heard the saying that you shouldn't plan for more kids when watching your kids sleep? There's a good reason for it... there is nothing sweeter than seeing a young child asleep - passed out cold in the way that they do, so still and so deeply unconscious you fear they might not be breathing.
I love to watch my children sleep. I love to go in and check on them at night and discover what funny ways they've managed to contort themselves and the bedclothes. I find that the way my children sleep reflects quite interestingly on their unique little personalities. K2 sleeps with the same force with which she goes through life. Often you'll find her twisted and turned, occupying every corner of her bed, a menagerie of stuffed animals and blankets the victims of her ferocity. Her little baby face is magnified when she sleeps, making her seem at once both innocent and pristine, yet still full of mischief.
K1 seems to show forth imagination in his sleep that he doesn't always allow himself to express when he is awake. When you go into his room you can almost imagine the scene that has played out in his dreams. Perhaps he's slaying dragons, or speeding around a race track. We've found him sleeping under his bed, or right behind his door, or even once in his closet - completely tucked in with his blanket and pillow.
The sleep of my angels rejuvenates them, and it rejuvenates me to appreciate all the wonders of their unique personalities. Soon enough it is wake-time and the other idiosynchrocies come out and I sometimes lose touch with those sparkling personalities. Thank goodness for rest :).
