A Pump-a-kin a One...

There is only one person in this world who will understand the title of this post, and I'll leave it to her to get a chuckle and won't bore anyone else with trying to explain it.

Fall is here, with all of its beauty and wonder and promise of change. I love the way fall smells. It has a very distinctive smell - much more so if you are lucky enough to live in New England, but even here in Colorado it is there, and vibrant. Unfortunately we've had a lot of snow already - October isn't even over and we've already had three good storms. Today it's snowed a good 6 inches outside. That I am not ready for. The snow was so wet and heavy, it bent up all of the bushes in the front of our house.

We took the kids to our favorite pumpkin patch last week and came home dirty, smelling of the outdoors and faintly of large animal drool (thanks to the chance we had to hand feed steers, llamas and even a bison!). But we also got some great pumpkins and even better pictures, so all in all it was well worth it. I love how much more magical everything is when you have a child to share it with.

With all the snow we've been having my kids have taken to wearing their rain boots all around the house. It's pretty much the NOW accessory. Yesterday K1 was eating a couple of licorice sticks and accidentally dropped one. M (the dog) was right there to snatch it up. K1 didn't say a word, just calmly walked around the table and proceeded to kick the dog with his boot-clad foot. I asked him what he was doing and his reply was very matter of fact - "doggie ate my licorice." "Oh," I ask, "so it's okay to kick him?" K1's reply? "It is if he eats my licorice." So, we had to have the talk about how dogs are dogs and we can expect them to eat food when we drop it - its just what they do. I don't think K1 was too convinced, but I did get him to at least say sorry to M. Luckily, M was unphased by the whole thing.
