Rose-colored glasses

Yesterday I got to do something I hadn't yet done before. My mom and I went shopping and took K-squared, and after lunch she took K2 in her stroller and K1 stayed with me and we shopped together. He was so good - staying with me, hanging out, helping me decide what looked good and what didn't, just being an all around fabulous shopping partner. I enjoyed my one-on-one time with him immensely, and he enjoyed chatting up anyone and everyone that crossed his path. Not sure how long he'll be ok with hanging out at the mall with his mom, so I'll enjoy it for now.

On Friday I am taking K2 to check out a preschool option. She can't attend the same preschool as K1, because her birthday falls just outside the cutoff. I'm not sure why I feel so strongly about starting her in kindergarten right before she turns 5, but I do. I loathe the idea of holding her back another year, and I think she's ready now to begin preschool. So, it means I have to start thinking now about where to send her in the fall. The preschool we are looking to attend comes highly recommended, and teaches both in Spanish and English. I love that, because K2 has such command over language it seems only right she should learn a second one.

Today we played one of their favorite games - memory. I know I sound like a bragging parent (probably because I am!) but I am amazed at how well they do - particularly K2. She remembers where every card is. K1 likes to jump in and try and "help" her, always needing to be the big brother in the situation, but she really doesn't need any help. My favorite is how vigorously they clap for each other every time they get a match. It's funny to me how well they can do at a game like memory, as these are the same kids who bite their finger repeatedly when eating food with their hands (K1), or who still ask 15x a day if their greatest friend who moved to Utah 4 months ago is 'out of town' (K2). I guess the mind function needed for a quality game of memory is located in a different part of the brain.
